Criterion: Environmental

Aggregate of the RMAP Facility Standard Environmental sub-criteria.

Full Description

Environmental

This aggregate criterion summarises the RMAP Facility Standard Environmental sub-criteria. Its conformance is derived from the rollup of the sub-criteria listed below.

Sub-Criteria

  • Pollution — Identification, baseline assessment, and mitigation of pollution from Facility operations, with prohibitions on discharge of pollutants and compliance with Minamata and Stockholm Conventions
  • Water Management and Stewardship — Documented water stewardship policy, baseline conditions, reduction targets, and action plans to prevent and mitigate risks related to Facility water use, consumption, and discharge
  • Wastewater Discharges — Documented inventory of wastewater sources, discharge reduction plans, compliance with permits, and regular monitoring of wastewater discharges and downstream receiving waters
  • Waste Management — Policies and documented plans for responsible management of all waste types, including hazardous waste, with reduction targets, proper storage, and use of authorized vendors
  • Air Quality and Noise — Identification of air emissions sources, air quality management plans with emissions controls, regular monitoring, and noise reduction plans where there are potential impacts on workers or communities
  • Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Energy and Climate Action — GHG emissions inventory (Scope 1/2/3), Paris Agreement-aligned reduction targets independently verified, energy efficiency and climate resilience action plans, and annual reporting
  • Biodiversity and Productive Land — Policy commitment to no net loss of biodiversity, baseline conditions assessment, conservation targets, and action plans to prevent and mitigate adverse impacts on critical habitats and biodiversity
  • Storage Tank Management — Documented inventory, hazard signage, spill prevention controls, routine inspections, and proper decommissioning of all aboveground and underground storage tanks containing hazardous products
  • Environmental Emergencies and Spill Response — Spill Response Plan and Environmental Emergency Response Plans, worker training, remediation of spills and releases, and periodic auditing of hazardous waste vendors
