Overview
Documented inventory, hazard signage, spill prevention controls, routine inspections, and proper decommissioning of all aboveground and underground storage tanks containing hazardous products.
Requirements
The Facility shall:
- 7.8.1 Establish and maintain a documented inventory of all aboveground and underground storage tanks and storage containers containing hazardous products, with inclusion of information on the operational status, product stored, and indication of spill prevention mechanisms.
- 7.8.2 Ensure all storage tanks and containers are equipped with hazard signs and product labels to identify the contents, hazards, and operational status, in accordance with applicable laws.
- 7.8.3 Establish and document procedures outlining the engineering and administrative controls in place to prevent the overfill of tanks and to contain and minimize impacts of spills that may result from system leaks or during product transfer.
- 7.8.4 Conduct routine documented inspections of all storage tanks and associated piping, components, and alarms to check for leaks and verify tank systems are in good working condition. Inspections shall include visual inspection of the soil or ground adjacent to tanks to identify potential spills or releases and take action to respond to spills in alignment with Section 7.9.
- 7.8.5 Permanently decommission tanks that are no longer in use using licensed professionals. This includes disconnecting tanks and purging contents in accordance with industry standards.
- 7.8.6 Blind-flange or disconnect tanks from service piping that are placed temporarily out of service and indicate operational status with appropriate signage, in accordance with applicable laws.
